Industrial Silence [This Is Not a Site, Noise (Not) Included] – Release

Industrial Silence [This Is Not a Site, Noise (Not) Included]
(GER)

Industrial Silence [This Is Not a Site, Noise (Not) Included]
(ENG)

«Industrial Silence» by Zurich-based artist and restaurateur An Moku (Dominik Grenzler) transforms months of construction noise to which he was exposed into an acoustic refuge. Softly resonant sounds of nature (field recordings of birdsong, water and insects, captured in and around Zurich as well as on the Isle of Harris) meet restrained tonal surfaces, opening up interstitial spaces within the urban soundscape. The composition dispenses with spectacle and the sound of machinery; instead, it relies on minimal instrumentation and asks: Where does a place begin, and where does noise end?

Silence frames the piece like an ellipse. At the beginning and at the end, for a brief moment, nature has the final word. Silence.

During the warm months of 2025, Industrial Silence functioned as an outdoor installation at Bärengasse, near Paradeplatz in Zurich. Played on a continuous loop, the composition understood itself as a quiet protest against constant noise.

«Industrial Silence [This Is Not a Site, Noise (Not) Included]» (50 min.) is a dynamic piece that may unsettle, yet can also be listened to quietly in the background.

Dingeklang Vol.1 – Sound pack of obsolete electro acoustic devices

Did you ever ask yourself how devices sound electro magnetically? Well,  in case you do not know, each device has its own sound. The electro smog. …And an exciting sound came to light.

Devices new and old, obsolete, some of them never used. Listened to by using Stan Pete’s Elektra electromagnetic microphones (Stan built two exemplars for me). Recorded with a Zoom H4n in December of 2019. The result is a sound pack full of interesting sounds and voltage: Dingeklang Vol.1- Sound pack of obsolete electro acoustic devices.

So, start sampling, mangling. Feel free and be inspired to transform the sound into something new. I have left plenty of headroom for you to experiment with. Please let me know what you’ve created.

You can grab this sound pack for free or pay what you want. Please consider to pay a bit since I would love to support the great photo artist. She is so awesome! Thank you in advance :-)

I made a demo track for my Bandcamp Subscribers only called «Elektroakustischer Dingeklang». Sorry you cannot listen to it. Hey, wait you can. Subscribe, haha!!!

Safety in Solitude: Upon

«Safety in Solitude« is kind of a diary. For a few weeks I am going to post a piece of my music. Weekly. For you, my dear Backstage-Subscriber.

The pieces of music will be calm sketches, experimental draws or misty landscapes that did not make it to appear officially yet. Maybe some of them will, some don’t. Maybe. I think they are beautiful as they are. Some of you might know that I am not interested in harmonic melodies that much. What I love are moods and repetitions with their micro alterations which you might not even notice. I am hoping to let you float and give room for own interpretation and imagination.

For the fist «Safety in Solitude» tracks I am working with the talented photographer from Spain, Juan TRakO.
I asked him for three pictures of his choice…

Enjoy Upon and Merry Xmas!
